(“SDC”) operates the SDC membership card program, including the SDC Special Discount Card and co-branded membership cards offered in partnership with participating businesses (each a “Partner”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you register for or use an SDC membership card, and applies to information collected through our website, registration forms, and in connection with our services.

SDC is committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation in Ontario.

2. Information We Collect

When you register for an SDC membership card, we collect the following personal information:

  • A photo of you, used solely for identity verification purposes when you use your membership card at Partner locations
  • Payment information necessary to process your membership fee (processed securely through our payment provider; SDC does not directly store full payment card details)

If you register for a co-branded membership card (such as a card issued jointly with a Partner business), your information may also be collected directly by that Partner at the point of registration and shared with SDC as described in Section 4 below.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the personal information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To create and issue your SDC membership card, including generating a unique member identifier and QR code for verification purposes
  • To verify your identity as the authorized cardholder when you present your membership card at a Partner location
  • To process your membership payment and manage your membership status, including renewals
  • To communicate with you regarding your membership, including sending your membership credentials, renewal reminders, and service-related notices
  • To respond to inquiries and provide customer support
  • To improve our services and comply with legal obligations

We do not use your photo or personal information for marketing or promotional purposes without your separate, explicit consent.

4. How We Share Your Information

We may share your personal information in the following circumstances:

  • With Partner businesses, solely for the purpose of verifying your identity as an active member when you use your membership card at their location (for example, displaying your name and photo to Partner staff for verification)
  • With co-branding Partners (such as GoGoMax / 好多多) where you have registered for a jointly issued membership card, to the extent necessary to administer that membership
  • With service providers who assist us in operating our website, processing payments, and managing our membership database, who are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it only for the purposes we specify
  • Where required by law, regulation, or legal process

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

5. How We Store and Protect Your Information

We take the following measures to protect your personal information, including your photograph:

  • Member photographs and personal information are stored in a restricted, non-public database and are not published to any publicly accessible location, such as a public media library or search-indexed webpage.
  • Access to member information is limited to authorized SDC personnel and, where applicable, Partner staff performing identity verification through our verification system (such as scanning a member’s unique QR code) at the point of service. Partner staff do not have direct access to our member database.
  • Membership verification is designed to retrieve member information from our secure servers at the time of verification, rather than storing a static, editable copy of a member’s card or photo on the member’s own device.
  • We take reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, to protect personal information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, disclosure, or modification.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information, including your photograph, for as long as your SDC membership remains active. Following the expiration or cancellation of your membership, we retain your information for a period of 12 months, after which it will be securely deleted, unless a longer retention period is required to comply with a legal, accounting, or regulatory obligation, or to resolve a dispute.
